A tribute concert was held in the honor of David Lynch and the David Lynch Foundation last night at the Ace Hotel in Los Angeles, California. The live concert included musicians such as Zola Jesus who performed Lynch’s single “In Heaven,” Sky Ferreira performing “Blue Velvet,” and Lykke Li performing “Wicked Game,” along with other musicians who performed singles from the movies Eraserhead, Twin Peaks, and The Elephant Man. Now the tribute concert hosted by the David Lynch Foundation will be issued onto an LP format. Fans of David Lynch’s music can hear the live performances on a collectible vinyl.
The Music of David Lynch is a double LP that will be released April 15 of this year. The tracklisting includes live covers by musicians Donovan, Moby, Duran Duran, Angelo Badalamenti, and Karen O. Other contributors and performers from the live concert include Wayne Coyne from The Flamming Lips, Twin Peaks, and David Lynch, who performs a poem near the end of the second LP. A separate cover album written by Xiu Xiu, Plays the Music of Twin Peaks, will be released the day after The Music of David Lynch has been out on shelves.
The David Lynch Foundation promotes Transcendental Meditation (TM) for children living in at-risk communities. This type of meditation is offered for children who suffer from chronic stress, due to environmental factors such as crime and soaring health costs. This type of chronic stress can cause compromising effects of children’s education, health, rehabilitation and vocational programs. The program implements meditation as an outlet and helps reduce the amount of toxic stress from the environment and situation that the child is presently living. Low-income schools and educational facilities near these at-risk communities who use this TM program strategy, have reported an improvement in grade and overall cognitive performance. The TM program is also suitable for those living with PTSD from serving in the military and survivors of domestic violence and abuse. Spanning ten years since it was established in 2005, the David Lynch Foundation has provided scholarships for half a million people who live with chronic stress and PSTD.
