With the Opening Day of the 2016 Major League Baseball season being yesterday, it’s only appropriate to release baseball classic. The Melvins decided to share their take on “Take Me Out To The Ballgame.”
The track is the closing song on their upcoming record. The LP, titled Basses Loaded, features six different bass players: Melvins drummer Dale Crover is the bassist on this song. Mike Dillard, who was part of the original 1983 Melvins lineup, plays drums. Pitchfork notes, “The other bassists are Nirvana’s Krist Novoselic, Butthole Surfers’ JD Pinkus, Big Business’ Jared Warren, Mr. Bungle/Fantômas’ Trevor Dunn, and Redd Kross’ Steve McDonald.” The LP is set to be released on June 3rd.
If you were expecting a metal twist on the classic, think again. The Melvins offered up a fairy traditional take on the song. The organ-manned cover has the band rooting for the home team.
With the release of their new album on the horizon, the band has also decided to announce some tour dates. The tour dates, via Pitchfork , will take the band though North America until the end of June.
