After eight years, The Last Shadow Puppets return with their second album, Everything You’ve Come To Expect. The album opens up with “Aviation” and takes you through a psychedelic journey to The Bourne Identity. With a fun mix of pop, cinematic strings and seductive lyrics, The Last Shadow Puppets will be stuck in your head for days.
The core duo, Alex Turner of Arctic Monkeys and Miles Kane of The Rascals had a little help from Zach Dawes and James Ford, as well as Owen Pallett’s orchestral arrangements. “Sweet Dreams, TN” is sure to have you tapping your foot while singing along to Turner’s melodic voice. Pallett’s strings pair well with the snare march.
“Bad Habits” is a dancier song that you won’t want to shake. “Should have known little girl that you’d do me wrong, should have known by the way you were showing off.” Everything You’ve Come To Expect is familiar, an emotionally fueled album.
“The Dream Synopsis” is a beautifully written song with nostalgia of a classier version of the Arctic Monkeys. Turner gives us a peek into his vision. “I’m in a building and I notice that I’m surrounded by the ocean. I get a feeling, I start running, don’t really know why I am running.” A romantic sound that soothes you, it’s an ideal song for a long drive on the highway.
The Last Shadow Puppets conclude the album with “The Bourne Identity,” a mid-beat tempo with vulnerability. “I caught you talking to the real me, can’t tell you how unhappy that shit makes me. If you hear him calling, promise you’ll ignore him. He’s kind of my enemy,” sings Turner in a dramatic attempt to show his true self.
The compilation of songs on Everything You’ve Come To Expect is electrifying. This is proof that Alex Turner has still got it, brilliant.
