Tacocat has just released the the new video for “Dana Katherine Scully,” a tribute to the skeptical FBI investigator from the TV series The X-Files. The track is off the group’s new album, Lost Time, which is out today.
According to Stereogum, the video is “packed with references for the most diehard of fans and even a few for us occasional viewers, like a recreation of the famous I Want To Believe poster that replaces the text with Probs Just Lens Flare.” It’s no question that the video is absolutely delightful. It’s got aliens, puppies and awesome dance moves. How can you hate that?
Singer Emily Nokes spoke to Spin about how The X-Files came about in the making of Tacocat’s new album. ” I’d been watching a ton of old school X-Files around the time that we were writing the album, and I was just like, man, she’s so fascinating,” Nokes says, “She’s just so deadpan, and the only voice of reason amongst these hard-science men in these fields of law enforcement and science.”
Last month, the group released the video for “I Hate the Weekend,” the first single off Lost Time. The video contained the same pop-punk riffs and awesome weirdness that can be found in “Dana Katherine Scully,” and leads one to believe that the new album will be one of their best. Tacocat also played showcase at SXSW 2016 and announced that they would embark on a tour following the release of the new album.
Tacocat has been a pop-punk fixture since the group was founded in 2007. The band is known for addressing feminist themes in their music in a humorous and/or thought provoking way, and has earned them a loyal following of supporters. They have since released several hit singles, garnered thousands of views on YouTube and toured the world.
