The White Stripes have announced release of a new record. The Peel Sessions album will be available for purchase on April 16, also known as Record Store Day. The album was recorded in support of White Stripes 2001 album, White Blood Cells which the band has performed on John Peel’s show twice in the months of July and November of 2001. The sessions also include songs from their debut album from 2000 De Stijl. White Stripes Peel Sessions include the legendary radio DJ John Peel. Some of the songs on the new album were performed over BBC radio as well as being subsequently bootlegged by fans.
The album will be released a limited edition red and white vinyl. A standard black vinyl will be released later in the year. Covers can be found on both vinyls which include White Stripes takes on Dolly Parton’s “Jolene,” Gene Vincent’s “Baby Blue” and the MC5’s “Looking at You.”
Besides Peel Sessions being released April 16, Jack White will release a 7″ green vinyl single of his cover on Stevie Wonder’s “You Are the Sunshine of My Life.” The cover was recorded and performed on ABC’s The Muppet’s. The song is part of the It’s Not Easy Being Green single LP. The single will only be available through Third Man stores in Nashville, Tennessee and Detroit, Michigan.
