FYF Fest has made an earlier-than-usual announcement of their 2016 lineup, with some very heavy hitters at the top of the bill. As has been the case for the last two years, the festival will take place at Exposition Park in South Los Angeles. The festival will be held from August 27-28. Artists who will be appearing at the festival include LCD Soundsystem, Tame Impala, Air, Grimes, Beach House and many more. For Kendrick Lamar, ANHONI and Grace Jones, their performances are being billed as “West Coast exclusives.”

Native Southern Californian Kendrick Lamar is the biggest name of the lineup with other big stories being the appearance of the reunited LCD Soundsystem and Air’s first United States show in five years. Kendrick’s top spot makes this the second straight year a hip-hop superstar gets top billing at the formerly punk-rock focused festival after Kanye West was a last-minute addition to the Saturday lineup. Over the past few  years, the festival has sought to bring in music fans from across the spectrum, introducing more and more hip-hop and electronic focused artists. This year Rae Sremmurd, Young Thug and Vince Staples join Lamar as big-name hip-hop artists making an appearance at the festival.

Other big names to get excited about include Hot Chip, Father John Misty, Explosions in the Sky, Saves the Day (performing their crossover hit Stay What You Are), Shellac, Charles Bradley, Blood Orange, DIIV, Chelsea Wolfe and the Black Lips. Many artists are making their first appearance at the festival, while others like Todd Terje, Grimes, Beach House, Ty Segall and Wild Nothing are making repeat appearances.

While Coachella gets the big national attention, FYF Fest has quietly grown to become Southern California’s other seminal outdoor music festival. It got its start as a small festival hosted in various clubs throughout the Echo Park neighborhood, before growing into a single-venue festival that took place at the now-under-construction State Historic Park just outside of Chinatown. When the park underwent construction, the festival made its move to the (presumed) final home of Exposition Park.
