D.A.R.K. has just announced their debut album: Science Agrees, set to be released on May 27th. D.A.R.K. is a collaborative group made up of Dolores O’Riordan from hit band The Cranberries, Andy Rourke, bassist of The Smiths and a fellow by the name of Olé Koretsky; songwriter, producer and DJ from New York. Along with the announcement, their first single: “Curvy” has been released to give everyone a taste of their sound.
Originally collaboration began between Andy and Olé. They met in DC and began to lay down beets together for a couple of years just for fun. As chance had it, upon a spontaneous run-in, Delores asked Andy what he was working. He began to share some of the songs with her via e-mail and Dropbox. She would often add to the songs and occasionally re-invent them with a whole new set of gifted ears.
Independently, Olé was working on a project called Science Agrees, and eventually that got thrown into the design plan as well. The three finally joined one another in Ontario, Canada to record instrumentation and vocals. Each of them were able to take part in producing and mixing the album themselves, achieving exactly the unique, personal sound that they were hoping for. The making of the album was a worldwide event as it was created in NYC and Ontario, mixed in California and mastered in London said the release.
The album is supposed to encompass all three of their personal sounds, joined together by a theme of exceptional electronica and new wave. Inspiration for their sound comes from Angelo Badalamenti (‘The Moon’), The Cure, Depeche Mode, David Bowie – Shop Boys and REM. Other influences for production and sonic experimentation sound came from Brian Eno, post-punk, post-disco, RZA and modern hip hop.
Some of the Subtle themes in the album include those of isolation and disconnection, trauma and rebirth.
