Heliotropes has just announced that their new album, Over There That Way, will be available June 17 via The End Records. The group also released the first single from the album, “Easy.”
Over There That Way will be the the band’s second album, and the first since Heliotropes signed with The End Records last November. Lead singer Jessica Numsuwankijkul says of these changes, “I’m very excited to release our upcoming album. We’ve been working on it for a while now and we’re very pleased to work with The End, who are gracious enough to remind us to do normal stuff like make album artwork.”
The label seems to be a perfect fit for Heliotropes, who cannot be confined to one genre and blend 90s grunge, electro and more into their music. The End Records hosts a roster of bands who similarly test the limits with their music, including Everclear and the Dandy Warhols. The first single off Over There That Way is the aptly-titled “Easy,” a gentle track with soft vocals and consistent lyrics. In fact, Numsuwankijkul says that the song is tribute the ’70s/’80s Canadian soft-rockers April Wine. The track is definitely a bit different from the group’s previous work, but it must be noted that Heliotropes is a band that is praised for their unique and constantly evolving sound.
Heliotropes have several shows coming up in their hometown of Brooklyn, including Sunnyvale on May 5 with Spirit System and a ’90s tribute night at Pet Rescue on May 14 where they will play as Weezer.
