Kesha has filed an appeal in a response to a judges decision in her ongoing legal quarrel with producer Dr. Luke. Kesha Rose Sebert (the pop star’s given name) submitted paperwork on Monday morning that would take the case to the New York appellate court.
Last month, New York Supreme Court Justice Shirley Kornreich denied a preliminary injunction that would have allowed Kesha to terminate her current contract with Sony that stipulates that she must record with Dr. Luke, who’s real name is Lukasz Gottwald. Kesha has alleged that the producer sexually abused her and threatened to kill her dog.
“Plaintiff seeks reversal of the Order on the following grounds,” Kesha’s appeal reads. “First, the Court erred in basing its decision on its finding that Kesha could record without interference from Gottwald.”
“Although it recognized that ‘slavery was done away with a long time ago’ and that ‘You can’t force someone to work … in a situation in which they don’t want to work,’ the Court’s ruling requiring Kesha to work for Gottwald’s companies, purportedly without his involvement, does just that,” it continues.
Kesha’s career has fallen on hard times in recent years. She has not released an album since 2012’s Warrior after considerable success in the early years of her career, much of which came while working with Dr. Luke on songs like “Tik Tok” and “Animal”.
Dr. Luke has vehemently denied any accusations, both in court and in public forums like twitter. Although rumors circulated a few weeks ago that Sony would terminate his contract, it appears as if Dr. Luke is still employed by the media giant to this day.
