Brooklyn Vegan has reported the The Go-Go’s will be saying farewell following a tour this summer. The band ruled the airwaves from 1978 until their breakup in 1985, but have since reunited several times. The tour will include the four original members: Belinda Carlisle, Charlotte Caffey, Gina Schock, and Jane Wiedlin. The band released a statement:
After a 38 year run, we are gearing up for one last blast of a summer tour. We feel so lucky and so grateful to have had the incredible support of our fans for so long. We can’t wait to get out on the road and give the people what they want: some loud fast music and a great party!
Supporting the band on the tour are two acts certainly Go-Go influenced: Bethany Cosentino-led Best Coast and pop singer Kaya Stewart.
Last year, Best Coast released California Nights along with a self titled single and followup “Feeling Ok.” Much of the band’s success stems from its chill, West Coast vibe that washes over the listener like Manhattan Beach swell. Since her breakthrough with Crazy For You, Consentino has been lauded for her trademark ability to express complex feelings in her music with simple lyrics. The frontwoman’s growing likability also comes from her social media presence that epitomizes California cool.
Daughter of Eurythmics’ David A. Stewart, Kayla is best known for her single “I’m In Love With A Boy.” The single was released to a record breaking 85 stations, the most ever for a song by a new artist.
