LISTEN: M83 Releases New Song “Solitude”

French electronic group M83 has just released “Solitude,” the second single off their upcoming album Junk.

If you could only use one word to summarize the track, it would be “dreamy.” It features minimal vocals, and primarily focuses on a grand orchestral display that almost takes listeners to another world. Paste Magazine states that the song features “a grandiose orchestral suite and impressive drum work that lies underneath,” and this could not be more accurate.

While M83 has always had a distinctive and nearly supernatural sound, this track definitely stands out. Earlier this month, the group released the first single off Junk, titled “Do It, Try It.” The track varied greatly from “Solitude,” as it contained a more upbeat and pop sound that showed M83’s tendency for experimentation. Regardless, both “Solitude” and “Do It, Try It” make it clear that Junk is going to be an album that thrives on emotions and contains something for everybody.

M83 consists of Anthony Gonzalez and his live band. The group was formed in 2001 and has released six studio albums, the last being 2011’s Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming. In addition to Junk being released on April 8, the group has several other projects in the works. The Grammy-nominated synthpop group will appear at Germany’s largest open-air electronic music festival Melt!, the indie music festival Osheaga, Belgium’s Pukkelpop and numerous other festivals.
