LISTEN: M.I.A. Releases New Songs “MIA OLA” And “Foreign Friend”

Often known for speaking out, British recording artist M.I.A. has released two new songs, “MIA OLA” and “Foreign Friend”, that exclusively talk about the political issues of immigration and borders. To make it clear to her fans, M.I.A. posted on the SoundCloud description for the new songs: “TO ALL MY FLYPIRATES and DJS – THIS IS AN ANNOUNCEMENT !!!! LIVE FROM THE MEXICAN BORDER OLA !!!! MIA ON THE WAVES.” She appears to be referencing Donald Trump and his consistent statements about putting up a stronger border between the U.S. and Mexico.

“MIA OLA” actually features a sample of the famous song “Circle of Life” from The Lion King, as well as a reference to M.I.A.’s previous track “Bamboo Banga” from her second studio album Kala (2007). So far, it’s unclear whether these two tracks are from her upcoming album or if they are just standalone singles.

This is definitely not the first time M.I.A. has spoken out on different political and social issues. In fact, she often creates music to address these problems. Just last November she released the single “Borders” which addressed similar issues. M.I.A. has a fifth studio album, Matahdatah, coming out sometime this year, that “Borders” is believed to be a part of.
