Refused w/ the Coathangers @ The Fillmore 5/26

After quite the hiatus from years 2000 to 2012, Refused is back with their fourth, and hopefully not final album titled Freedom. Two of the original founding members of Refused are back and include Dennis Lyxzen on vocals and David Sandstrom on drums. In case you aren’t familiar with Refused, they’re a Swedish punk band formed in the early 90’s and still rock as hard today as they did 25 years ago.

Rarely do I believe that the opening band is more epic than the main act. This show is one of the cases in which I think the openers, The Coathangers, overrule Refused musically, not talent wise. Of course, Refused is more talented! They’ve been around for ages, but The Coathangers rock louder and have a better sound, in my opinion, than Refused. Both are amazing acts, though.

The Coathangers make a hell of a lot of noise for a three-piece band. And they’re all female which is even more noteworthy. We need more female representation in music nowadays. I experienced The Coathangers play live on two occasions, the first time I had no idea who they were but I went back wanting more a few months later. The Coathangers’ music is heavy and loud, the perfect female punk band. Both Refused and The Coathangers are a match made in punk heaven. Don’t miss out on this show filled with mosh pits and sweat. The ultimate adrenaline booster for your night out. Get tickets now before they’re sold out and have a great time.
