M83 Announce New Album Junk For April 2016 Release

French electronic music band M83 announced long-awaited new albumJunk, that would follow up 2011’s crossover smash Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming. According to Consequence of Sound, M83‘s seventh studio album arrives on April 8th release through Mute Records.

Frontrunner Anthony Gonzalez, who reunites with producer Justin Meldal-Johnsen, promised that the latest release is “very strong” and “very epic” album that blends unique genres “with a lot of eclecticism”. He elaborated in a press release:

Anything we create today is going to end up being space junk at one point anyway, and I find it really fascinating and scary at the same time – beautiful too in a way. I have this image of pieces of humanity floating in space, lost forever. It also means that nowadays everything goes so fast and everybody is kind of throwing away art in a certain manner. People will listen to an album for instance and just pick a track they like to put on a playlist. They’re not going to take the time to listen to an album anymore because they have to jump on the next thing.

The opening track, “Do It, Try It,” features a “fractured yet catchy mélange of old school house music, pianos, synthesized vocals, prog excess and pop art bubblegum hooks”.

In January, M83 unveiled the dates for their intensive tour across the U.S., Canada, and Europe. The expansive spring tour launches on March 6 in New Orleans and ends in Budapest. The Grammy-nominated synthpop band will appear at Germany’s largest open-air electronic music festival Melt!, the indie music festival Osheaga, the genre-fusing Way Out West, the ingenuine Mo Pop fest, and Hungary’s Sziget.
