The lineup for the Free Press Summer Festival has been announced, and there seem to be a lot of EDM and indie-rock artists performing for it. This will be the festival’s eighth year in the running and it will take place June 4th and 5th at Eleanor Tinsley Park in Houston, Texas. More local acts are still to be announced along with at least one more headliner. In its debut in 2009, the Free Press festival only had around 30,000 in attendance. As of last year, the attendance had grown to 100,000.
Deadmau5 is a Canadian progressive house music producer from Tornoto, Ontario and he has put out seven studio albums so far. His latest one was While(1<2) released in 2014. The title is in reference to computer programming language where it is referred to as an infinite loop – a reflection of the album having two discs.
American indie rock band The National formed back in 1999 and they’ve released six studio albums since then. Trouble Will Find Me is their latest one, released in 2013. It received widespread acclaim from critics and was nominated for Best Alternative Music Album at the Grammys. Back in January, members of The National announced they were forming a new band, LNZNDRF, with the band Beirut. As of now, The National is getting ready to go on tour for the summer.
American indie folk band Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros formed in LA in 2007 with a revolving lineup of up to 12 people. They have three studio albums so far with an EP (Here Comes EP) released back in 2009. Their self-titled album is their most recent work, released in 2013. This past January, the band announced their new album PersonA to be released on April 15th of this year.
UPDATE: 05/31/2016: The festival will be relocated to NRG Park. The move is temporary and follows several weeks of storms that saturated original location, Eleanor Tinsley Park. The festival will go on the same dates as planned, June 5th and 6th of this year.
