Andrew Bird and Fiona Apple have just co-released a new song titled Left Hand Kisses and it’s the perfect version of what an Andrew Bird love song should sound like. It is his Second Single for his upcoming album Are you Serious which will be his 12th.
This epic love single is not like just any love ballad though. “My inclination was to write a song about why I can’t write a simple love song,” Bird says in a statement. “The song began as an internal dialogue.” The song clearly surpasses his internal world into the external as the lyrics turn to a dialogue between two conflicted lovers.
“I don’t believe everything happens for a reason,” Bird begins. “To us romantics out here, that amounts to high treason,” Apple counters. As the song builds, the two begin to circle one another, Apple becoming more pointed in her responses said Flood. “The point your song here misses is, if you really love me, you’d risk more than a few fifty-cent words in your backhanded love song,” she sings.
Andrews Album Are You Serious will be released on April 1st by his recently acquired label Loma Vista Recordings who also work with bands such as Spoon, St. Vincent, and HEALTH. The Album will be produced by Tony Berg and along with Fiona Apple will have contributions from Blake Mills.
UPDATED (3/15/2016) Andrew Bird and Fiona Apple have just released a chillingly spectacular music video for Left Handed Kisses, directed by Philip Andelman. The video showcases the sort of “I say, you say” banter that the song so artfully portrays and at the end there is a live performance of the last few seconds of the track for a more authentic feel.
Bird will also be performing on the Ellen Degeneres Show tomorrow (03/16) and will begin his US tour at the end of this month.
