Shamir @ Swedish American Hall 4/30

One album out and 21-year-old Shamir Bailey has made it to the big time. His debut record Rachet reached the top 50 albums of 2015 list not one, not two, not three, but four times from Spin Magazine, Stereogum, Pitchfork, and NME. How’s that for a debut record? The genre Shamir brings to the table is not easy to define. As he puts it, “It doesn’t matter what you sound like – you just have to be you.” Wise words, my friend. For those of you not familiar with Shamir, please don’t define him as either male or female. He is said not to have a clear gender but is comfortable with male pronouns. His androgynous vocals express the genderless identity. It’s a perfect fit.

Genius doesn’t some quickly. Shamir started writing music at age nine and at age sixteen joined a punk band. A few years later he sent his demo tape to a New York label and soon after signed to Godmode Records. Now he’s one of the biggest upcoming stars in the music business. On The Regular is Shamir’s hit song released as a single back in 2014 when Shamir was only 19! Don’t miss this show, it’s going to be a blast! Get tickets before they sell out.
