Wire’s new album has been announced for release this year in April. Exceptionally titled Nocturnal Koreans, it is the urgency, seedy and fast paced album that rings true to its recording session that came from one chronic sleepless night that Wire spent in a seedy Boston-area hotel on their 2013 US tour. The band has released a single with Pitchfork and SoundCloud.
Nocturnal Koreans is an introspecting album. It’s ambient noise in the background reflects the tune of the diversity and expansive range of the musicians who made the album come together. The album shows Wire’s new music carries a disrespectful personality to the creators themselves. The album is further personified with the habits of self-destruction that can be heard when the instruments are performing their individual parts for single completed piece of music. To describe the new album, the concept is simply re-innovated and transformed into another aspect of the band as its whole and not as one person or multiple people with multiple personalities. This band takes itself and describes it in one person like Pink Floyd and their movie The Wall which was created from their Wall album. The self-destructive habits of the singer in Pink Floyd’s movie are created into the personification of one person. Pink, the main character, shuts himself in from the rest of the world. It is something akin to that isolation the album’s tracklisting follows the concept of complexity and isolation, being lost in one’s mind and losing all hope of connecting to the outside world.
The title track of the new album is one guitarist Matthew Simms’ favorites on the new record. “It’s a great snapshot of touring America,” said Matthew Simms,” and when I hear or play that song, it reminds me of the many weird and wonderful times, places and people that cross your path.” It’s an album based on construction over authentic performance, where the recording environment is the main instrument.
Wire has announced upcoming tour dates for their new album will be released later in April on the 29. The tour will start in March of this year with a performance at ATP, curated and presented by musician Drive Like Jehu in the UK.
