British trip hop group Massive Attack has released their new video for “Voodoo In My Blood”, directed by Ringan Ledwidge. The song comes off their Ritual Spirit EP, which was written and produced by band member Robert del Naja and long-term studio collaborator Euan Dickinson. “Voodoo In My Blood” features vocals by Young Fathers, a hip hop group from Scotland. This video is the second one to be made from Ritual Spirit – the video for “Take It There” was released less than month ago, and features a collaboration with Tricky, an early collaborator with Massive Attack. Massive Attack released their new EP in January through the launch of the Fantom app, a music app that remixes songs according to certain variables. The band is currently on tour throughout Europe.
Massive Attack has been around since 1988 when they first formed in Bristol. They released their debut album Blue Lines in 1991 after debuting their single “Teardrop.” If you’ve ever seen an episode of the U.S. TV show House, “Teardrop” was the song used for the show’s opening. Since the founding of the band, Massive Attack has put out five studio albums in addition to their latest EP, Ritual Spirit, released on January 28th of this year. The EP marked the reunion with Tricky, who hadn’t collaborated with them on an album since their album Protection released in 1994. Ritual Spirit was also the band’s first release since their collaboration Four Walls / Paradise Circus with Burial, the electronic recording artist, in 2011. London rapper Roots Manuva and singer Azekel are also featured on the new EP.
