American singer-songwriter Marissa Nadler has announced her new album Strangers, set to be released on May 20th through Sacred Bones Records and Bella Union. She’s been around since 2000, but she’s already got six studio albums to show for it along with two EPs. Her new album was recorded with producer Randall Dunn, who also partnered with her on her last album July. Released in February of 2014, July was Nadler’s sixth full-length studio album and had a indie folk/dream pop sound to it. Find a great review of it here.
Nadler also released a single from her new album called “Jane In Love”, a textually rich song with her signature sound and an emphasis on drumming. You can still feel the ominous sound she often associates herself with. The foundation of Nadler’s songs is her acoustic guitar, with ambient-sounding instruments in the background. Her voice is incredibly talented, which is important as her songs often feature stripped-down vocals. It’s harder to fit Nadler into one genre of music. Many classify her music as indie rock, folk, dream pop, and ambient. Check out her new single “Jane In Love” below, as well as the track list to her upcoming album Strangers.
