It’s been a big year for Chvrches. Since the release of Every Open Eye, the Glasgow band has enjoy enjoyed both critical and commercial success, earning positive reviews from every major music publication and topping the Billboard Alternative and Rock charts. The electronic rockers can also look forward to headlining Seattle’s Capitol Hill Block Party with Odesza and open air electronic festival Melt! in Germany with M83 and Jamie XX. Their 2015 album spawned slew of hits -including “Leave A Trace” and “Never Ending Circles” – that saw heavy rotation in the alternative and indie airwaves. This week, the group shared a video for their single “Clearest Blue,” which can be viewed below.
The video flickers between an armored, medieval Lauren Mayberry and club-dressed modern Lauren Mayberry, both waiting for their knights to meet them halfway. The song explores the struggles faced in a relationship, likening Mayberry’s romantic interest to a storm. The eye represents clarity from an unrelenting outpouring. This theme reoccurs throughout Every Open Eye, and perhaps is the reason why the album’s namesake derives from the lyrics of “Clearest Blue.”
The band will hit the states this Spring for the North America leg of their world tour supporting the latest album. They’ll make appearances at Buku Music & Arts Project in New Orleans, Coachella, Governor’s Ball, Bonnaroo, and Firefly Music Festival, with a number of other anticipated shows in between.
