It’s been 20 years since Local H shared their sophomore and breakthrough album, As Good As Dead. The Steven Haigler (Quicksand, Pixies) produced album was the band’s first effort at a concept album and is centered around the struggles of life in a hopeless town. The album made way for a properous career that say high including four radio hits: “Eddie Vedder,” “Fritz’s Corner,” “High-Fivin’ MF” and “Bound for the Floor,” a track that remains on alternative playlists today. Today, they are still going strong; 2015 saw the release of the critically-praised Hey Killer.
While the future looks bright for them, Local H is going back to where it all began. The duo has announced plans to mark the 20th anniversary of Good As Dead by playing the album in its entirety during this year’s national tour. The dates kick off Friday, April 15 in Chicago (18+) and Saturday, April 16 (all ages). The tour will continue through the spring, winding down in June. See the full schedule below for more info.
Fans of Local H’s later work need to fret not. In lieu of an opening act, the band will play music from 2015’s Hey, Killer, along with music from the groups 6 other studio albums and EP’s during the first half of the show. Following a brief intermission, the band will return to play As Good As Dead in its entirety. Tickets go on sale Friday, February 26th.
The band recognizes the formidability of a opening act-less tour. “We’re taking a couple of months off to properly prepare for the tour,” says frontman Scott Lucas. “We wanna make sure we get it right and present the album in the best possible way… we’re not in the business of disappointing people.” The group’s history gives credence to these claims. 20 years ago, the boys toured the U.S. non-stop for two years after As Good As Dead was released, standing as a testament to the group’s endurance and work ethic they’ve maintained over the years.
Update (3/31): Local H has confirmed that Joe Daniels will accompany the band on their world tour. According to a press release, “The rumors are true. After 16 years, Joe Daniels will be re-joining us behind the kit for a run of shows celebrating the 20th anniversary of As Good As Dead.”
Update (2/24): Local H have added more dates to their As Good As Dead tour. The tour will include two sets: the first with the band’s current lineup and a second with the original members, who will play As Good As Dead in its entirety. See the updated tour schedule below.
