Lush Announce New Album Blind Spot And Release New Video For “Out Of Control”

Lush are making quite the comeback! After announcing new music last November, the 90’s pop band has opened up regarding details of their new EP, Blind Spot. The disc will be available on April 22, and will be released on the group’s own label, Edamame Records.

Recorded with producers Jim Abiss (Adele, Arctic Monkeys) and Daniel Hunt (Ladytron), the EP will be the first new material released by the group since their single “500(Shake Baby Shake)” in 1996. In addition, a music video has been released for the song “Out of Control,” the first track off Blind Spot. The video was directed by Martin Andersen, who also shot the images for the cover of the EP.,

Speaking about the new EP, member Miki Berenyi says it was a very rewarding experience.

“It certainly took some time to set up, but once we were in the studio, everything came together incredibly quickly. It was great fun! It’s been a long time since I’ve written Lush lyrics, and I realised early on with this EP that what I wrote about then is not what I feel comfortable writing about now. My perspective, and what is close to my heart, has changed, and I think that’s conveyed in the songs.”

In addition to the new album and video, Lush also released Chorus in January. This is a detailed box set that spans over the group’s entire discography. It features five CDs containing their three studio albums, two singles compilations, as well as unreleased demos, radio sessions, remixes, and rarities. Lastly, it comes with a hardbound book by the band’s v23 collaborator Chris Bigg.

Lush has also secured new tour dates for 2016. The group first announced last November that they would play a (now sold-out) reunion show in September 2016 at New York City’s Terminal 5. However, they have multiple other dates lined up. Lush will also play two shows at London’s prestigious Roundhouse venue in May 2016, make an appearance at the Coachella music festival in April, play the Iceland Airwaves festival and eventually return to the US in September for the East-Coast leg of the reunion tour.

Bassist Phil King also had a great time working on Blind Spot and is very optimistic about the future of the group.

“I know I’m biased, but I work for a music magazine and so much of the music I hear played in the office sounds non-descript or derivative. Emma has this way of writing unusual chord changes and manages to weave lovely melodies over the top, and it immediately sounds distinctive, like Lush.”

Lush is truly making a valiant comeback, and 2016 will introduce an array of new music, shows and appearances from the group. Visit the group’s official website for more information.
