Eighteen years ago, Britney still hadn’t shaved her head, Bush had yet to be president, and airport security was a laughing matter. That was the last time Refused had released an album — their 1998 record, The Shape of Punk to Come. The hardcore band, however, is not letting this millennium pass them by. Last summer they broke the years of silence with the album, Freedom, and last fall the band did five-concert tour around the Pacific Northwest. Now, the Swedish rock band is ready to take on the world. Or North America, at least.
Starting in San Francisco at The Fillmore on May 26, Refused has 12 concert dates lined up around the United States, performing each night with The Coathangers and Plague Vendor (although Plague Vendor will not perform at the Fonda Theater in Los Angeles on May 27). All of the concert proceeds will go toward MOAS (Migrant Offshore Aid Station), a Malta-based organization that provides search-and-rescue assistance to refugees at sea.
According to SPIN, Noisey and Rolling Stone, the band has not lost any steam over the years. SPIN wrote, “The band has been welcomed back into the fold with arguably the highest level of enthusiasm of their collective careers.” Tickets for Refused’s tour go on sale this Friday, February 19 at 10 a.m. PST.
