New headliners have been announced for the Isle of Wight music festival, including Ocean Color Scene, The Kills, Status Quo, The Cribs and Mike + The Mechanic. In honor of “punk’s” 40th birthday — with 1976 widely seen as the birth year of the genre — the festival added Adam Ant, Iggy Pop, The Damned, Buzzcocks, The Godfathers and The Sex Pissed Dolls to the lineup. Queen and Adam Lambert will also be taking the stage.
Taking place on the island off the coast of England from June 9-12, Isle of Wight is known as the European Woodstock, dating back to the musical glory days of 1968. The stage is well broken in after hosting The Rolling Stones, The Who, David Bowie, Muse, Foo Fighters, Paul McCartney, Jay-Z, The Sex Pistols and The Police as previous headliners all in the past 15 years. The festival will take place in the middle of Queen’s tour around countries such as Portugal, Estonia and Bulgaria. Adam Lambert is currently on a worldwide tour that will last until the end of April.
Tickets for Isle of Wight are for sale on Ticketmaster, running for £195 ($282) for a weekend pass — though the festival is offering student discounted tickets for £175 ($253), teen tickets for £145 ($210), and free entry for children. A monthly installment plan is available for payment. Keep up with the festival via the hashtag, #IOW2016.
