The Pixies Announce Summer 2016 Tour Dates

It’s been awhile since we’ve heard from alternative rock band The Pixies, but they’ve recently announced that they will be going on tour this summer. Though not much information has been released yet, the tour will take place in various venues across Europe, including appearances at a few festivals. The tour will kick off in Portugal in June and end in Italy in July.

The Pixies have been playing together since 1986, but not without some difficulties. They broke up in 1993 for a little bit over a decade, reuniting again in 2004. And over the past few years, a few band members have come and gone. In fact, co-founder Kim Deal left the band in 2013 and had to be replaced. Despite their troubles, the band has been incredibly influential, accredited to influencing the alternative rock boom of the 1990s. Aside from that, The Pixies have explored a number of genres in the creation of their music, mainly through different styles of rock and pop, including surf rock and surf pop. The band’s sound is even said to have influenced other legendary bands such as Nirvana, The Strokes, Radiohead, and Weezer. Perhaps the American band is most known for being offbeat. The Pixies like to talk about subjects most people generally avoid. Many of their songs discuss such blatant themes as biblical violence, surrealism, incest, and even aliens. This offbeat song caused the band to gain popularity, particularly after the band reunited after their breakup in 2004, and led to many sold-out world tours and commercial success.

Over the span of the last couple years, The Pixies have released 3 EPs, appropriately titled EP1, EP2, and EP3. The EPs were only available for download and on limited edition vinyl. In April 2014, the band compiled all three EPs into one album titled Indie Cindy, which was the band’s first release since Trompe le Monde, released over two decades ago in 1991.
