Gasparilla has announced their 2016 lineup which features a hip-hop and R&B heavy stable of artists, at least on the headlining front. The lineup also mixes in indie staples such as Blitzen Trapper, and bluegrass acts such as Greensky Bluesgrass.
The festival is slated to take place March 12-16, in Tampa, FL, along Tampa’s Riverwalk. The mainly groove-oriented genres of music selected for the festival should compliment the Florida weather, which for most other places in the country is unseasonably warm, very nicely.
The festival is run by the Gasparilla Music Foundation, which is a non-profit corporation. The group has many goals they hope to achieve through the festival including “creating a long-term sustainable institution benefiting the Tampa Bay area,” and supporting and promoting local bands and musicians.
These visions for a music festival contrast those of many of the larger festivals, which feature a bevy of corporate sponsorships, and capitalistic agenda. Clearly there’s room for both viewpoints to exist within the festival circuit.
Tickets for the festival are on sale now, and can be purchased here.
