Mamiffer has officially confirmed the release of The World Unseen on April 1st through SIGE records — their first full LP since the 2012 Bless Them That Curse You. Just to prove to everyone that it’s not some elaborate April Fool’s trick, the duo has released their album art and the first single from the album, “Mara.”
Mamiffer is made of two parts: Faith Coloccia, who coincidentally did the album art, is a graphic designer, and co-owns the label, and Aaron Turner, whose musical history extends back to the bands ISIS, Sumac and Old Man Gloom. Together they create their hauntingly intriguing sound, which blends the lights and darks of instrumentals paired with melancholic vocals. Their song “Mara” features layered harmonies that have an eerie childlike innocence and beg for a second listen.
Their new album promises eight tracks of similar mystique. The two called upon other explorative musicians, including Geneviéve Beaulieu (Menace Ruine) and Joe Preston (Thrones) for their track “Domestication of the Ewe pt. III.” A long time in the making, The World Unseen is one of many of Mamiffer’s projects, its predecessors including Hirror Enniffer (2008), Mare Decendrii (2011), Bless Them That Curse You (2012) and Statu Nascendi (2014). In November, they released a joint project Crater with Daniel Menche. Their next show is at the Treefort Music Festival in Boise, Idaho at the end of March.
