There’s nothing surprising about two musicians collaborating to record a new song, but with the rise of the internet, artists now have the tools to collaborate remotely like no other time in history. In this spirit, Google challenged Speedy Ortiz‘s frontwoman Sadie Dupuis (writing as Sad13) and rising hip-hop artist Lizzo to write a song together using Google Docs.

With Sad13 working in Massachusetts and Lizzo in Minnesota, the two artists used Google Hangouts and Docs to hash out the structure and lyrics of what would become their new single, “Basement Queens.” Sad13 wrote the music for the song, while both artists contributed vocals. The pair met in person for the first time in Brooklyn’s Room 17 Studio where they recorded the track, which was produced by Computer Magic.

“Basement Queens” is a fun and funky pop song, featuring a heavy driving bassline and strong vocal performances from both musicians. The single is available for free on Google Play. Fans can also check out behind-the-scenes video for a look at the entire process.
