Claypool and Lennon are forming a band. The Claypool Lennon Delirium just released their first track “Cricket And The Genie” after Connan O’Brien leaked the Bonaroo festival lineup. Even though the band’s name is unusual and unique, the speculations are over and the musicians Les Claypool from Primus and Sean Lennon, have already released a single.
The interesting pair met when Sean Lennon’s band Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger opened for Primus and Dinosaur Jr. last summer. Claypool invited Lennon to perform during the live version of the “Southbound Pachyderm” single and was instantly blown away with the guitar performance by Lennon. “I realized that this fella had some chops,” said Claypool to Rolling Stone, “Primus was about to take some time off and I was gearing up a new project so I asked Sean if he’d like to come to Rancho Relaxo and see if we couldn’t get some interesting sounds on tape. Next thing I know he’s staying in my guesthouse over the holidays and we’re drinking vino, hunting mushrooms and throwing musical pasta at the walls.”
The single by Claypol and Lennon sounds more like a Danny Elfman single than something the duo has composed as of recent. It is omnipresent and even trippy in effect. While Claypool is playing on the bass, Lennon is playing on every other instrument you can think of playing for a song that sounds like an interesting time taking LSD. The single is raw, experimental, and pop rolled into one little song that is only eight minutes long. Let’s hope this collaboration project is worth the wait for more music and a possible album.
