Bob Mould Announces New Album Patch The Sky For March 2016 Release

Indie rock veteran Bob Mould returns with a new record, Patch the Sky, that is championed as a “triumph of opposing forces and properties”. The anticipated solo album is unveiled on March 25th, according to Consequence of Sound. In Patch the Sky, Mould aims “for the perfect balance of bright melodies and dark stories” by tuning “it to high contrast”.

Mould, hailed by a press release as “the master of balancing personal darkness with melodic brightness”, released a new video for the evocative track “Voices in My Head.” In the LP’s lead single, Mould crafts an irresistable fusion of introspective lyrics, poignant vocals, and spirited guitar melodies. “If I decide to listen to the voices in my head, strange hallucinations I avoid,” Mould sings emotionally. “The people and the places, the living in the dead, you cannot find some truth within the noise.”

The video, directed by Alicia J. Rose, features the former Husker Dü and Sugar frontman facing physical projections of the voices in his head. In his New York City apartment, the hallucinations keep Mould awake throughout the night, intensifying as the song unravels.

Guitarist and vocalist Bob Mould was a member of the Minneapolis punk trio Husker Du, one of the most influential American bands of the ’80s. In 2015, Mould unleashed Beauty & Ruin, his eighth solo album, laced with the distinctiveness and authenticity of his alternative and pop punk style, influenced by the vibes of 1980’s rock band Husker Du.

Discussing the on the anticipated upcoming album, Patch the Sky, Mould elaborates:

The search for my own truth kept me alive. These songs are my salvation. I’ve had a solid stretch of hard emotional times, and thanks for the condolences in advance. I don’t want to go into the details—more death, relationships ending, life getting shorter—because they’re already in the songs. Just listen and see if you can fit yourself into my stories. The words make you remember. The music makes you forget.
