What do Robert Plant, John Bonham and Nasty Bits have in common? The unabridged era of New York in 1973 — an empire of rock’n’roll and unhinged spirits that will relive the glory (and gory) days in the HBO original series Vinyl. With Mick Jagger, Martin Scorsese and Terence Winter as executive producers, the series will premiere exclusively on HBO this Valentine’s Day. To accompany the premiere, Atlantic and Warner Bros Records are releasing Vinyl: Music from the HBO Original Series — Volume 1, which is the full-length soundtrack of the premiere episode and will be available for purchase in stores and digitally Feb. 12.
The composition includes a blend of the old, new and revamped with artists such as Kaleo, Otis Redding, Chris Kenner and Soda Machine. For each of the eight following episodes, the series will release an accompanying EP with both original tracks and re-recorded oldies. Some of the featured artists include Iggy Pop, Charli XCX, Jesse J, Royal Blood, Trey Songz, The Arcs and DJ Cassidy. For the grand season finale, Atlantic and Warner Bros will release their second full-length album, Vinyl: Music from the HBO Original Series — Volume 1: Finale, on sale April 15, two days before the final episode airs.
James Jagger — the 30 year-old offspring of The Rolling Stones’ frontman — will co-star as Kip Stevens, lead singer of Nasty Bits. If that band name doesn’t ring any bells, don’t feel too bad — it’s fictional to the drama series. However, the imagine rock’n’roll band will be featured on the premiere’s soundtrack with their song, “Rotten Apple.”
