Father John Misty @ The Fox Theater 4/1

I wouldn’t say I’m an emotional person and few albums have reduced me to tears, but Father John Misty’s I Love You, Honeybear released emotions in me that no other group has done before. I Love You, Honeybear, released on the prestigious Seattle-based label Sub-Pop Records, is the second album of Father John Misty’s and I feel as the album progresses it continues to move me. There’s not a dull moment in this album, it’s all fantastic to say the least and will open up emotions in your being you didn’t know existed.

I’m having trouble putting Father John Misty’s second album into a comprehensive genre. There are clear influences in classical, folk, indie, and some electronic so the album is bits of the whole spectrum, so you can’t go wrong. The album looks back on the romantic past of Father John Misty and his wife’s relationship, which continues to be a theme throughout the album. You can only experience beauty in his music. The most consuming lyrics of the whole album are Oh, and love is just an institution based on human frailty. What’s your paradise gotta do with Adam and Eve? Maybe love is just an economy based on resource scarcity. What I fail to see is what that’s gotta do with you and me.

I hope you’re reading this not long after the post date because tickets go on sale for Father John Misty today.  Tickets are going to sell out as quick as lightning considering his new album I Love You, Honeybear grabbed the top 50 albums of 2015 five times from Pitchfork, the AV Club, NME, Rough Trade, and Stereogum. It’s no surprise to me though after hearing the album and feeling the bar raised to an almost unreachable point. Don’t sleep on this opportunity, get tickets ASAP! Don’t forget a box of tissues for the show.
