UPDATED (2/19/16):
Japanese pop girl band, BABYMETAL, has announced the release date, April 1, 2016, of their second studio album, Metal Resistance, and a supporting world tour that will kick off April 2, 2016 at SSE Arena Wembley London. The album will be released via RAL/Sony Music Entertainment in the U.S. and via earMusic in Europe.
BABYMETAL‘s concept is centered around two genres: metal and idol. In Japanese pop culture, idols are artists marketed as someone to be admired, usually for their cuteness. Idols are intended to be role models and are supposed to create and keep good public image. In addition, they are supposed to provide a positive example to young people. The members of BABYMETAL consist of Suzuka Nakamoto as “Su-metal”, Yui Mizuno as “Yuimetal”, and Moa Kikuchi as “Moametal”. Su-metal serves as the lead vocalist while Yuimetal and Moametal sing and dance.
When we last heard from the Japanese trio, they were performing with Skrillex at Ultra Music Festival. About a year ago, BABYMETAL played to 20,000 people in Tokyo’s Saitama Super Arena, which was their biggest show to date.
Now, Metalbaby’s global tour will begin in London, England and finish in Tokyo, Japan at the Tokyo Dome with a capacity of 55,000. The last show of BABYMETAL’s 2016 tour at the Tokyo Dome will be their biggest headline show to date.
Sources say that Su-metal stated, “I will be putting my everything into the production of our upcoming album because I believe that many of you are waiting for it. We are looking forward to meeting our fans abroad again at Wembley Arena right after the release of our second album, so you can expect to hear our new songs for the very first time live there. Performing at Tokyo Dome [this] year still feels like a dream, but I am going to work towards building up my confidence to stand on that stage and I hope to continue growing through our upcoming world tour.”
Moametal added, “I still can’t imagine that that day would come, when we would perform at Tokyo Dome. On top on that, our new album will be released on Fox Day, so I promise you that we will come up with an album that will betray your expectations — in a good way, of course.”
