Dave Lombardo Ends Philm

Dave Lombardo was the former drummer for the band Slayer, now he is the former drummer for the band Philm. The group has disbanded and Lombardo took to his personal Facebook page. “To be clear: I did not “exit” PHILM, I ENDED PHILM,” said Lombardo, “Thank you to all who supported that band. Now, I’m off to the studio to do what I love.. play the fuckin’ drums.” However Lombardo is still going through with the Dead Cross LP that he was been working on along with some future announcements of tour dates later this year.

Philm was one of the bands that Lombardo was doing as a side project before he quit Slayer in 2013. The problems only began until it got to the promotion of the group as a whole. In an interview with comedian Dean Delray on his Let There Be Talk podcast. Lombardo states that bandmates Gerry Nestler guitarist, and Pancho Tomaselli the bassist were not interested with the promotion of the band and wanted the durmmer from thrash metal group Slayer to tone down the drumming, but that was not his style according to the interview. “[They said] ‘Don’t play hard. We want you to play a little softer.’ I said, ‘Nope.” said Lombardo around the one hour and sixteen minute mark of the SoundCloud link for the interview. The podcast recording of the interview was posted onto SoundCloud and a embedded version is located below the article.

“I’m not gonna talk about it. They didn’t want me to promote the band while I was with them, and I’m certainly not gonna do it when I’m without them,” Lombardo said in the podcast. “I don’t wanna talk about it anymore. Yeah, so I just said, ‘See ya!’”

Dead Cross is live and active in their recent playing last year with a tour in 2015. A video was posted online with Dave Lombardo beating his drum kit to bits with members from the bands Locust and Retox, which form the other two components of the group. That video is located at the bottom of this article.
