After nearly a decade since Tool’s most recent album, 10,000 Days, the Los-Angeles based rock band has returned for an intense and experimental 2016 tour. Guitarist Adam Jones said it best, calling the tour “an unparalleled sonic and visual experience”.
At San Fransisco’s Bill Graham Civic Auditorium, Tool unleashed a setlist steered by favorite classic tracks, from the fiery “The Grudge” to the hypnotic “Parabola”. The ‘familiar sonic territory’ spanned with Tool’s first tour in two years was met with frenzied enthusiasm, according to Rolling Stone.
In 2015, the full band performed in one live performance that, amid Led Zeppelin covers, featured the premiering of a new song, “Descending”, for the first time in ten years. The atmospheric instrumental track is anticipated to appear on the long-awaited new album. While progressing on the production of their fifth LP, Tool announced a highly anticipated tour stretching across the U.S.
Tool launched the tour in San Fransisco with a blazing cover of Led Zepplin’s “No Quarter”, which the band also shared at Arizona’s Monster Mash Festival in 2015. They continued with a rare performance of 1992’s “Sweat” for the first time in eighteen years and further surprised thrilled fans by dusting off the brooding track “Opiate” for the first time since 1998.
Tool’s incredible fusion of intricate music and stunning, stimulating visual effects continues to be powerful, even after 25 years.
