Electronic music producer Hudson Mohawke has released a cover of John Carpenter’s iconic “Escape From New York Theme.” Mohawke’s cover adds more body to Carpenter’s composition, with a distorted backdrop and extra layers of sound giving the track a brighter and more full feel.
Consequence of Sound reports that the new song was released as part of the LuckyMe Records advent calendar, an annual release designed to highlight “rarities, alternate versions and brand new exclusives that span the sound of the LuckyMe family.”
For this year’s release, the label plans to donate profits from streaming the songs on YouTube and Spotify to the Syrian Refugee Crisis.
The new tracks caps off an exciting 2015 for Mohawke, who released Lantern, his first solo album in six years, earlier this year. Mohawke has also released videos for few songs on the album, including “System” and “Warriors.”
