After nearly three years of a recording sabbatical, Shearwater is releasing their newest album Jet Plane and Oxbow come Jan. 22. The indie rock band, formed at the end of the last millennium, spent the past two years in the studio creating the 11-track album according to Sub Pop. To commemorate, Shearwater has planned a two-month tour around the globe, hitting up Germany, the UK, Denmark, Switzerland and the other European glories. They’ll start the US portion of the tour at the beginning of March. See tour dates below.
Shearwater dropped a single off the album, “Quiet Americans” in October — a Bowie-esque track that’s a decent sashay from their earlier, more melodic pieces. Jet Plane and Oxbow is available for pre-order off the Shearwater website, which includes a free podcast of demos, outtakes, “field recordings from Brazil and Guyana,” and features the host of New Sounds, John Schaefer. The band Instagrammed a screenshot of their upcoming music video for “Quiet Americans” as a New Year’s Eve Treat.
