Pains of Being Pure At Heart recently released their album, Days of Abandon. The three song EP, Hell, was previously released to follow the bands newest album. Today, the band released a new video for Hell’s title track of the same name.
The music video was shot on the old 16 mm film, which brought us infamous movie classics such as Nosferatu, The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, and The Man Who Laughs. Even though some of the references are from the silent movie days, the brilliance of capturing modern movies and music videos on this old style film made by both the Fuji and Kodak film companies is striking enough to bring out the more haunting reminiscence of the songs meaning. The Pains are performing the track and playing with flowers, showing the more subtle happy and opportunistic take in the lyrics who say otherwise, the lingering and more haunting presence of Hell appearing behind the camera. It is the way the song plays out like a jaunty number, something that an old music box would play when you open it up after a couple of years behind closed and when its opened again the music sounds like it was going with time.
