It is hard to forget someone you’ve been the best of friends with, even if that is for forty years on the road. Lemmy Kilmister and Motorhead performed for a final time in Berlin, concluding the performance with the single “Overkill.” The performance was twenty days before his death.
The Europe tour was finished before Lemmy was taken from this world. He suffered from diabetes through his life and also suffered from severe lung infections which would often cause Motorhead to cancel some of their scheduled shows and one time during the middle of performance. Mikkey Dee from Motorhead stated that he was shocked by the desire from Lemmy to continue playing, despite feeling unwell before the band took the stage. “He was terribly gaunt, he spent all his energy onstage and afterwards he was very, very tired,” said Dee about Lemmy appearances on and off stage. It was that final gist of drive from Lemmy, worn and weary from his lung infection, that drove the ball home for the 40 anniversary tour.
In the video, it shows the final moments of Lemmy. In the video itself, you can see Lemmy tired from trying to keep up his energy. When he is singing in the song “Overkill,” he is weary and his voice is a little low. This is the final clip of a dying man who fueled so much fire and passion for other musicians. He will be known as the grandfather in heavy metal music and will hopefully inspire more people like Lars Ulrich to do what they love the most. Check out the video below.
