German death metal band Obscura has released an ear-splitting new song entitled “Sermon of the Seven Suns” from their upcoming album Akróasis. The track combines the band’s technically complex and multilayered sound with classic death metal riffs and the intense, guttural vocals of lead singer Steffen Kummerer.
Akróasis is Obscura’s fourth studio album, and the first release since 2011’s Omnivium. While the band is known for their multifaceted technical approach to music, Krummer describes Akróasis as their “most organic record up to date.”
Though Obscura may have a reputation for creating highly sophisticated music with unique time signatures difficult to reproduce live, Krummer says for this record they stuck to analog equipment exclusively using their live setup. As a result, fans can expect a more visceral and lively sound for the new album.
Obscura has also released the music video for the new album’s title track.
Akróasis is set to release on Feb. 5, 2016 through Relapse Records.
