Kid Kudi – Speedin’ Bullet 2 Heaven

Cudi’s New, Alt Rock Sound

Scott Mescudi, aka Kid Cudi, has done it again with his new album, released on December 4thSpeedin’ Bullet 2 Heaven gives him an innovative sound that sets him in a new genre. Indie or alternative rock is the best way to describe Cudi’s vocals and instrumentals on this new album.

To backtrack on his previous albums, Cudi’s approach was a mix of psychedelia and hip-hop. His popularity in the last decade has grown as much as his unique approach to the flow of each verse. Cudi doesn’t do much lyrical work, essentially making the guitar the focal point of each song.

When listening to the album the immediate thought the listener would have is, “Is this Nirvana or Kid Cudi?” Well that is exactly what Cudi wanted with this new album. One of his favorite artists is Kurt Cobain and this certainly was honored throughout each song.  In his previous album, Man on the Moon, he talked about his drug addiction and his struggle to surpass it. That being said, Kurt Cobain is clearly emulated throughout his new music.

In the song “Confused,” Cudi still discusses his drug addiction saying, “I hate the drugs but I love the numb.” So is he trying to break out of his addiction to marijuana and shrooms? Maybe not, due to the fact that his song, “Adventures,”  is basically something you would listen to while on shrooms, given it’s psychedelic vibes. The song runs approximately six minutes long; however, the last two minutes or so the song introduces a Bevis and Butthead skit. Butthead begins to trip out and then says to Bevis, “Take some of these mushrooms that Cudi gave us, they’ll make you feel better.” Cudi probably won’t be laying off the shrooms anytime soon.

The album has two discs containing a total of 26 tracks. Kid Cudi continues to surprise his fans with his unusual but unique sound. Speedin’ Bullet 2 Heaven brings a new form of music for Cudi to explore and possibly new fans.
