Members of Lolawolf (Jimmy Giannopolous) and Warpaint (Jenny Lee Linderbeg) have formed new hip-hop group, Crewshade, and have released a video for their song “Show You How To Bop”.
The track, which is slated to be included on the group’s debut album early next year, sports a carefree hip-hop sound reminiscent of something 90s’ era Beastie Boys would have come up with. Utilizing heavy drum samples, and sharp synth instrumentals, the songs old-school aesthetic works well as a change of pace in the world of modern hip-hop.
Stylistically, the group is inspired by 80’s New York thrash and hip-hop, which comes through in the visual element in the video as well. It has a distinct urban appeal, revels in goofing off, and not taking itself too seriously, making the package easily approachable and fun.
Crewshade is certainly something for hip-hop fans to keep an eye on in the upcoming year. These two rising musicians are sure to produce a record with many highlights, with a significant “good time” factor to accompany it. Again, no specific release date has been announced yet.
