On December 3, Scott Weiland was found dead at tour stop in Bloomington, Minnesota after falling asleep on the road. The Hennepin County Medical Examiner announced today the reasoning behind Scott Weiland’s mysterious death. Weiland died of an accidental overdose of cocaine, methylenedioxyamphetamine (MDA), and ethanol.
Weiland was found dead on the way to a show in Medina, Minnesota with his new backing band, The Wildabouts. The day after his death, Bloomington police revealed they found a small amount of cocaine in the tour bus bedroom where Weiland’s body was found.
Weiland’s career lasted three decades long. He was best known as the lead singer for the band Stone Temple Pilots from 1989 to 2013, as well as the supergroup Velvet Revolver from 2003 to 2008. He released two studio albums, two cover albums, a live album and collaborations with many other musicians as a solo artist.
Weiland’s Stone Temple Pilots bandmates released an open letter to him saying, “The memories are many, and they run deep for us. We know amidst the good and the bad you struggled, time and time again. It’s what made you who you were. Part of that gift was part of your curse.”
In addition, his Velvet Revolver bandmates also posted a remembrance to bassist Duff McKagan’s Facebook page. “We experienced a good chunk of life with Scott and, even in his darkest times, we all had hope and love for him. His artistry will live on, of that, there is no doubt.”
