Since releasing their EP Torches and 2014’s sophomore album Supermodel that was accompanied by an expansive tour, Foster the People has remained quiet in 2015. But with the year coming to a close, the indie pop band has unveiled their first new track of 2015 their exclusively through a BitTorrent Bundle. The single “The Unforeseeable Fate of Mr. Jones” is a melodic fusion of guitar pop and gloomy mystery, nostalgic of 2011’s “Pumped Up Kicks” while revealing a new side of the band.
“The Unforeseeable Fate of Mr. Jones” includes another track, “Ruby”, alongside the band’s original artwork. The tracks mirror the band’s signature dance-infused pop and rock, a twinkling style that blends traces of many genres:
Four years after their debut EP, Torches, Foster The People still defies easy categorization: indie pop that bristles with intelligence, curiosity, and the occasional weaponized hook. 2014’s Supermodel saw the band exploring new territory: acoustic, psychedelic, and electric.
The Californian band’s new release seems to be a glimpse of what awaits fans in the band’s currently untitled third album. As the music adopts an addictively rhythmic atmosphere interwoven with spoken word verses, it introduces a darker, unexpected face of Foster the People.
