With the recent announce of their sophomore album Is The Is Are, DIIV are back with their new single “Under The Sun”. The song premiered last night on Sirius XM and online at Pitchfork.
The song is humble and sincere. You find DIIV at his most direct. The bands usual flair is in the song while showcasing their most approachable songwriting so far. Zachary Cole Smith, the bands frontman, posted a note about the song on the bands Tumblr: “I feel like when discussing this album, a lot has been made of its relationship to drugs, and my own personal relationship with drugs. I’ve talked about it in the press as openly as I can because it is so important for me that this album register to people as being as true and as honest and as rooted in reality as possible.” He continued to write, “But I never wanted this record to be mired too deep in darkness either. My life wasn’t all drugs and addiction, rehab/relapse, and sickness. I also met and fell in love with someone.”
This is the fourth release from the upcoming album. The band has also released “Mire (Grant’s Song)“, “Bent (Roi’s Song), and “Dopamine“.
The band is preparing to hit the road with a handful of international dates starting at the end of January. Their new album, Is The Is Are, will be released on February 5th.
