Aimee Mann and Ted Leo, The Both duo, released a new song “You’re A Gift.” The Both recently produced an album together, but now they are releasing Christmas songs in honor of the holidays.
“You’re A Gift,” the song title itself is almost very touching. The song could almost be played outside the Christmas holidays because it doesn’t really sound like a Christmas song, but the video kind of makes it feel all warm and cuddly in the lyrics. However, the song is also jam packed and very melodic. The photo shows Frosty and Santa battling out the good, the bad, and the naughty for Christmas. However the song can also be interpreted as throughout the holiday stress, sometimes you just need someone to help mellow with the melting snow on floors and the warmth of a fire. It saying that there’s always going to be two sides to any holiday. There’s the Scrooge and the Tiny Tim, but somewhere in the middle, there are people who enjoy spending the holidays as just the two or even just as a whole family. So even if there’s yelling kids and even possible screaming in-laws, everyone is just happy to see one another and look back on the year before the holidays are over and it’s back to the grinding school.
The Both are touring with Liz Phair for a Christmas special of Liz Phair’s hit songs such as “Why Can’t I” becomes “Why Can’t I Wreath.” The song “You’re A Gift” will be available for purchase next week in December.
