Soul-revivalist, Charles Bradley just revealed plans to drop new record, Changes this coming April 1st via Daptone Records imprint Dunham. Built on the frame of his cover of the classic Black Sabbath song, “Changes,” Bradley delivers an emotionally-charged rendition by his own crooning and mastery.
Changes marks Bradley‘s third-studio-effort and enabled follow-up to 2013’s triumphant Victim of Love. Having been formally dubbed: “The Screaming Eagle of Soul,” the 67-year-old only gets better as he trucks-further in the gut-wrenching truth of his new-video for “Changes;” Bradley’s solemn delivery serves the brutally-battered spirit of the broken-hearted with anthemic profusion.
Baring it all within the single-framed, poignant expression of soul-churning sorrow, the once Sabbath-penned cut has never felt so personal as having been coined through the gift of Charles, himself.
Having previously been made available only through the format of an analog-45, released on record-store-day in 2013, the single is now available to purchase digitally.
Charles notes his experience in performing the somber-ballad:
“I think about the lyrics very closely when I sing ‘Changes’ and get emotional. It makes me think of my mother and the changes in my life since she passed away.”
The video for “Changes” was originally intended to be shot in Times Square, but director, Eric Feigenbaum discovered a far more visceral-approach in spare terms, says he:
“kept coming back to the take of Charles looking straight at the camera, telling the story with his eyes and reacting in the moment to the song. We only did that once. By the end of the take, everybody in the room was holding back tears.”
