Pretty much anyone who was in their early-teens or born in the nineties is familiar with the Perry Farrell inspired music festival, Lollapalooza. This year’s festival that has come to be so popular will expand to a four-day weekend in celebration of its longevity.
With Lollapalooza typically taking place over three days, Farrell has decided to commemorate the festival’s 25th anniversary by celebrating with a special four-day weekend.
Here is what Farrell had to say on the expansion:
“It’s our 25th Anniversary and we wanted to do something really special and different for our fans. There’s a lot of really great music coming out in 2016; with the abundance of talent that wanted to help us celebrate 25 years we got to thinking… “How are we going to fit all those great artists in one weekend?” Then we thought about what a special day Thursday has become. When the party can’t wait for the weekend, the movers and shakers make it happen on Thursday! So, we’ve put together an entire additional day of music to celebrate our milestone year. It’s going to be a fantastic party!”
The popular music festival that began in the early 90’s by founder and musical saint, Perry Farrell, is one that has become known to music-lovers all around. I can’t count the number of times I have exchanged words in conversation regarding music and specifically what bands we all saw in the “early” years of Lollapalooza. With each year bringing a variety of artist and attractions, it is one of those festivals that holds something for almost everyone and has continued to expand that notion in the years its inception.
Stereogum gives insight that the 2016 Lollapalooza will be moving its dates from the first weekend in August to the last weekend of July.
Perry Farrell is also the front-man for musical pioneers, Jane’s Addiction and also the band Porno for Pyros. He is a man who some may find to be a musical genius, while others were just not equipped enough to understand the brain of the quirky and odd musician finding him hard to understand; but for a generation bred on grunge and a time in music that would shift perspectives of music lovers, Farrell is in a way the definition of the 90’s. It is really cool to see how this particular festival has endured over the years and made its way into the heart of fans, both older and new, without ever losing its true essence.
