Mothers Announce Winter 2016 Tour Dates

Georgia-based band Mothers have announced an expansive tour of the United States starting with a New Years Eve show in Athens, Georgia, and ending on April 1 in Los Angeles, California. The tour will take them briefly to the UK in February and includes several dates at Austin’s SXSW Music Festival in March. Other notable dates include the Savannah Stopover Music Festival, the Treefort Music Festival and the Daytrotter Music Festival.

The tour is seemingly in support of the band’s debut album, When You Walk A Long Distance You Are Tired, which will be released on Grand Jury Music on February 25. Brooklyn Vegan reports that the album was produced by Drew Vandenberg, who has previously worked with Deerhunter, of Montreal and Toro Y Moi. On the album, Josh McKay of Deerhunter plays vibraphone and McKendrick Bearden of Grand Vapids plays bass and string arrangements. Mothers clearly has allies in Deerhunter and of Montreal – they even toured with the latter.

Mothers was originally a solo project by singer-songwriter Kristine Leschper in 2013, but soon was built up into a full band, according to Stereogum. Other members of the band include Matthew Anderegg on drums and guitarist Drew Kirby. They have already released a couple of singles from the album, “It Hurts Until It Doesn’t” and “Too Small For Eyes.” Leschper has spoken about what the former track’s meaning is:

““It Hurts Until It Doesn’t” is essentially kind of a battle — the internal struggle between ego and self doubt, which is something that I find myself thinking about a lot. It’s a problem that a lot of creative people struggle with, and there’s very rarely like a good balance between them. It’s either that you have a huge ego or crippling self-doubt and there’s little happy medium between the two. This song is kind of about letting go of something that’s toxic in yourself — like a relationship — rising above it and being stronger in order to not need that thing anymore. The song talks a lot about self-doubt, about not being sure of your place in the universe and questioning how much you can deal with the person that you are. That’s what I mean by the last line, when I say: ‘I don’t like myself when I’m awake.'”
